DISCLAIMER: The Hartford Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is NOT a Police Organization in any way, shape or form. We are NOT part of the Hartford Police Department, or any other Police Department. We are NOT Police Officers, or Police Reserves. We are citizens who volunteer our time and talents, to help our police department and community.
The Hartford Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association began in 2007, thanks to Police Chief David Groves and then Lt. Scott MacFarlan.
It began with a training class "Citizen Police Academy", where citizens learn to appreciate what Police officers do on a daily basis.
Lt. Scott MacFarlan lead the first Citizen Police Academy classes.
Most recent classes have been lead by a variety of Hartford Police Officers. The current Officer in charge is Sgt. James Fidler.
Each year adult community residents and a select number of individuals who work in Hartford, are invited to apply for the
"Citizen Police Academy" class.
Classes usually begin the end of August and run for nine weeks. For more information about the Citizen Police Academy class, click here.
Upon successful completion of the class, candidates are encouraged to join the Hartford Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
Our purpose is to serve our community by helping the Hartford Police Department, The Hartford Police Explorers and our community.
Some of the fun police department events we've staffed are: the Mini Police Academy at the Schauer Arts and Activities Center, Bicycle Safety Day at Lincoln Elementary, and the Law Enforcement Memorial at The Washington County Fair park. We've supported The Hartford Police Explorers, by volunteering at some of their event, such as:: "Snowed in at the Movies" & "The Oshkosh EAA Air Adventure" and The Explorer Conference in Wisconsin Dells.
Alumni members enjoy getting together for a winter party each January and as of 2021 a summer picnic.
We also have a variety of Speakers that members and their spouses are welcome to come and hear. We try to have a speaker every other month.
Each Christmas Members make or buy food and treats for Officers that have to work over the Christmas Holiday.
We meet at the Police Department on Christmas Eve, December 24th to drop off our goodies.
Approximately 280 people have completed the class since 2007.
As of August, 2023 we have 41 dues paying members. Dues money is used to purchase items for the Police Department.
Regular Meetings are held Bi-Monthly. See meetings/events page for meeting dates and times.
